Maxillofacial prosthetics is a branch of dentistry that deals with the treatment and repair of deformities of the face and jaws, including the artificial replacement of missing parts. There are two types, namely, intraoral and extraoral. While the primary goal of an extraoral prosthesis is to restore aesthetics, the primary goals of an intraoral prosthesis are to restore function, aesthetics, and speech. Because patient populations and life expectancy have increased, the need for maxillofacial prosthetic services has also grown. This work provides a logical collection and elucidation of pertinent intraoral subject matter as an excellent current reference resource and addition to the maxillofacial prosthetic literature.
