Beyond Spirituality: Teachings of an Indian Saint on Economic Empowerment

Sree Narayana Guru (1886-1928), a towering figure of Indian history, is often revered as a spiritual leader, a prolific writer, and a social reformer. However, his profound insights extended far beyond the realm of spirituality. This book delves into a lesser-known facet of the thought: the economic vision of Guru. While widely celebrated for his social reforms and spiritual teachings, Guru recognized the inextricable link between social upliftment and economic empowerment of the society. He emphasized the importance of education, organization, and industry as the cornerstones of human progress. This book explores Guru's unique perspectives on topics ranging from the role of education in economic development to the importance of corporates and co-operate models, and the significance attached to the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs). Furthermore, this work examines Guru's practical approach to the economic advancement of individuals and societies as well as the nation. He not only preached the importance of economic self-reliance but also actively encouraged his followers to get their minds engaged in productive activities. The current work has been primarily relied on the pioneer book on the topic, titled Economic Vision of Sree Narayana Guru, written in Malayalam by Sarngadharan M. This work prepared after a constant research for a long time has been well appreciated by the readers. This book offers valuable insights for scholars, policymakers, and anyone interested in understanding the profound impact of Guru's thought on Indian society and its potential to guide future economic and social progress.
