OCT& Visual Fields in Glaucoma Structure-Function Correlation

Dr Reddy's earlier textbook on visual fields has been an excellent guide to not only postgraduates and those to training in glaucoma, but also to many of us practicing glaucoma as a subspecialty in understanding the nuances of visual field interpretation. In his recent practical manual on OCT, he has extensively tried to explain how structure function relationships in the optic nerve head, RNFL and macular ganglion cell layer and visual fields can be an excellent guide in clinical practice to detect not only early glaucoma , but on management of established and advanced glaucoma as well.
To those of us who are of the impression that OCT evaluation is redundant in advanced glaucoma management due to the floor effect, he has challenged our paradigm and convinces us by his nuanced and intricate explanation with many relevant clinical examples of visual fields, fundus pictures and OCT that close evaluation of macular ganglion cell layer in advanced glaucoma can assist us in making crucial decisions in appropriately managing. His recent treatise on OCT has been a gamechanger, in that, I have started looking at GCC analysis and RNFL analysis in both early and advanced glaucoma as a more powerful tool to detect progression earlier than on visual fields.
Dr Reddy continues to contribute significantly to our understanding of the crucial investigative tools available to us and in optimizing their application in our clinical decision making. His books should be made widely available for all those interested in judiciously applying the ancillary tools in glaucoma management and to anyone interested in understanding the basic concepts underlying Visual field and OCT evaluation in glaucoma.
Dr Reddy needs to be commended and thanked by the ophthalmic community for having taken the road less travelled, as far as interpretation of these principal investigative tools are concerned in glaucoma management.
