Prosthodontic management of malpositioned implants

It is widely accepted that dental implant therapy is a predictable treatment option for the replacement of missing teeth. Improved treatment concepts have allowed clinicians to offer better treatment outcomes, shorter healing periods, and less surgical morbidity for patients. Inevitably, the increased use of dental implants for the rehabilitation of fully and partially edentulous patients has resulted in a rise in the number and severity of implant related complications. In order to prevent such complications, it is also important to understand the causes for implant complications. Complications related to malpositioned implants and implant occlusal complications continue to be seen in implant dentistry and are perhaps one of the most common types of implant complications. Esthetic and functional related complications such as porcelain fracture, occlusal screw loosening or fracture, abutment or abutment screw loosening or fracture and even implant fracture are all possible consequences of malpositioned implants or improper occlusal loading.
