Product Description

In June 2015, Anshuman Thakur was photographed one week after surgery — smiling,
standing, looking fine. Behind him on the wall, in a small framed photograph, was his father.
His father had been gone for nine years by then. He just hadn't finished grieving.
The Man Who Runs is the story of what happens when loss goes unprocessed, and a life
slowly drifts without its anchor.
It begins with Late Professor Vijay Kumar Thakur — historian, scholar, author, Professor of
History at Patna University — whose death in December 2006 left behind a son who kept
moving forward without ever stopping to ask where he was going.
Two years later, marriage brought stability. Warmth. The quiet, steadying presence of a
partner who made him want to be better. The emotional freefall slowed.
But the body continued to be ignored.
Late nights. Junk food. No exercise. A relentless forward motion mistaken for vitality. Until a
ruptured appendix — carried undiagnosed for six to nine months — made silence
impossible.
What was expected to be a minor procedure became a two-hour surgery. What followed
was a recovery measured not in weeks but in milestones: first standing, then walking, then
— eventually — running.
Seven marathons across nine years tell the rest of the story.

From a 4:45 finish in Mumbai 2017 to a 3:22 personal best in Delhi 2025, each race is a
chapter in a transformation that was never linear — marked by setbacks, a humbling six-
hour collapse in Singapore, and the slow, unglamorous work of rebuilding from scratch.
This is not a book about becoming a champion.
It is a book about becoming honest — with your body, your grief, your potential, and the
people who carry you when you cannot carry yourself.
The Man Who Runs is for every person who has ever lost someone important, found their
footing again, and still had further to fall before the real rebuilding could begin.
The road back exists.
This is proof.
